Open up the drawer there’s dust on the handle Brush it to the floor I wonder what’s inside Odds and ends and things I’d long ago forgotten Shuffled to the back I find forgotten keys Chorus: And I wonder where they lead What doors unlock, what secrets they’ve seen What treasure they possess What passageway to somebody’s mess I wonder where they lead The forgotten keys Hanging on the ring some keys and a label The writing’s faded now but there’s enough to read The keys they open doors to abandoned hotel rooms So open up the door and make my way down there Bridge: I’m standing at the door Trembling hands, I’m not sure anymore But there’s something I must know Where do these keys go?
2.
Old man lets out a sigh One that could be heard for miles Says no matter how I try I just can’t shake these trials Chorus: And he breathes with the wind Slowly out and then in again And the tears flood his eyes As he sits there and cries His weathered face has seen enough Of trials that make any life tough But a smile rises through the pain Hope that’s impossible to feign
3.
I’ll take the bottom if you take the top And leave a couple sheets between No need to worry, no need to fret The old man told me they were clean Pre-chorus: I won’t bother you If you don’t bother me Chorus: When we wake up in the morning We can jump right in the pool With our mom and dad behind us And our little sister too Or we can turn on cable TV See if Thundercats is on But we’ve got to get some sleep now Didn’t you just see me yawn? Could you be quiet one minute more? You are driving me insane With all the driving we did today I think your voice could melt my brain
4.
Hold my tongue fight back another one I don’t even know what I’m saying Lies they come like they’ve always done Lies become the truth I’m making up Chorus: And if you could see behind these eyes Would you understand these lies Why my tongue will let them drip like honey If you could reach inside my heart Would you understand this art How I keep it all from boiling over Lies I’ve said you would never guess Ignorance! The truth I’m selling Cast your vote mark the box and hope No one asks what I’m not telling
5.
Another day away from home Another night without the wife and kids It’s just me and this TV It’s just me and I am bored to sin Turn on the tube for something to do I wish that I had a better excuse But she is all that I need When I’m alone she keeps me company Chorus: Maybe it’s your eyes Maybe it’s your face Remind me of my wife Keep my secret safe Pick up the phone and call my wife Review the day and then we say goodnight Tell the kids I love them so Wish I could talk, but I have to go
6.
Turn down the light so they can’t see a thing Keep your voice low and don’t let the phone ring Hold fast your tongue til you know that the coast is clear I don’t want to see a trace of fear Hold to your guns boys they can’t have gone far Keep on the lookout they know where we are The trail is still hot and it’s likely that they are near I don’t want to see a trace of fear Well my cohorts it has come down to this Steady your aim we cannot spare a miss Who would have thought that it all would converge right here I don’t want to see a trace of fear We’ve got ‘em now boys there’s no where to run We’re closing in fast they must know that they’re done I’ll hold the front and then you circle back to the rear I don’t want to see a trace of fear
7.
Hey, it’s Friday night. What ya doin’ honey? I’ve got nothing to do Hey, you’re beautiful and I have got some money I could spend it with you Chorus: Hey, if you’re going my way I’d be happy to say That you are mine for the evening Hey, if you don’t wanna stay we can drive all day And you could be mine for the evening Hey, it’s getting dark, but I’m not even tired What do you wanna do? I know this place if you can keep it quiet I could stay there with you
8.
There she stands Shining in the moonlight Holding my hands She helps me to stand through the night And her face - white as the snow And her scarlet lips don’t you know Whisper up words no other man has ever heard Chorus: And she tells me I’m the only one She has ever known she has ever loved And a tiny prayer trickles off my tongue Help me love her Lord she’s the only one There we lie Wrapped up like a child in white I look in her eyes Do I have the strength to fight? And I am afraid My love for her may soon fade Still she whispers up words no other man has ever heard
9.
Well I guess you had to be there Ain’t it funny how that works? The flame went out that I forgot to fan Guess I thought it would be easy Guess you thought I was a jerk But life don’t always work out like you plan Pre Chorus: It’s not fair that love turns out this way Things that I could say But things mean nothing now Chorus: Nothing’s left to give, nothing’s left to take A half hearted smile and I feel so fake You take yours and I’ll take mine And someday never things will turn out just fine Giving up is always easy Giving in was our mistake But love is oh so hard to avoid A love that once was burning brightly Now impossible to wake But emptiness will fill this hungry void
10.
Honey, don’t you know? The mirror always adds a couple pounds Laxatives and nicotine Won’t diminish what your heart has seen Chorus: You can keep on cryin’ Your heart will keep on lyin’ to you Your eyes are blind to what I see Honey, you won’t listen to me Light another cigarette Hope it helps you to forget The images inside your head Honey, you look like you might be dead

What am I still stuck here for? Do I need someone to open up the door? You’d think I’m tied here to this chair But the truth is I would rather be anywhere than… Chorus: Here, somewhere far away I don’t have to stay If I could pack my bags and leave So why am I here? Why do I stay? Don’t shed a tear If I have to walk away Should have left here yesterday But something in your eyes made me want to stay Should have set foot out that door Should have left you here, but I’m still wanting more of you right…
12.
What have I to return to? Though they would take me back There is nothing left for me There is nothing I lack Well my mother forsook me All my brothers did too So I look to my Father He will always be true Chorus: As I walk down this road before me I cannot help, but feel some loss Keep my eyes on the prize before me And help me to shoulder my cross I am traveling onward Though I travel alone I can stay here no longer This is not my home

I guess this is the end of the line for now I hoped I would have it all figured out But time ticks on faster than I would like It doesn’t seem fair and it hardly seems right Chorus: And when it all comes to a head I’ll wish I had more time before I was dead ‘Cause I forget what matters most Its life and love and the Holy Ghost A broken down truck grants me some time to think Of everyone I’ve had the time to meet Some have been harsh and some have been kind and meek I hope I was kind when we met upon the street
